Eclipse softball team finishes runner-up
Dawson Springs News
By Cassie Bruch, Dawson Springs Correspondent
Good morning, Dawson Springs. I have quite a bit of making up to do with readers after the last two weeks, huh? Time got away from me last week due to two weddings, my sister's baby shower, council meetings, college studies and work. Because of those activities, this column was absent from last week's edition of the Pennyrile Plus, and I missed the June meeting of the YW Club. Thanks for hanging in there with me.
If you see them out and about, there are three Dawsonian members of the Tri-County Eclipse softball team who have earned your congratulations. Brooke Randolph, Jalyn Walls and Bradleigh Bruch recently joined the Lyon County-based Eclipse, which is a "traveling team" of 12 softball players who represent the best talent the surrounding area has to offer. Last weekend, the Eclipse competed in their first tournament of the season in Central City. The team earned runner-up honors in the 2009 ASA Northern Territory 16 and under tournament. Congratulations Brooke, Jalyn and Bradleigh. Their next tournament is scheduled for the second weekend of July in Owensboro. Wish them luck.
Another young citizen also deserves our best wishes. Breanna Barnes, 9-month-old daughter of Wayne and Sherry Barnes, recently won a state competition and advances to the national contest to be held July 10-14 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Breanna is the granddaughter of Jerry and Barbara Lynch. In St. Petersburg, she will be cheered on by older sisters, Krystal and Alexis. Breanna's uncle, David Lynch, insists that he is her biggest fan. Good luck in St. Petersburg, Breanna.
On June 13, Bob and I attended the beautiful wedding of Jenny Blackwell and Chris Evitts, which was held at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. After the ceremony, a dinner buffet was served and then we proceeded to one heck of a party in the reception hall. The staff at Pennyrile created the perfect day for not only the newly married couple but also for their guests. If you are planning a wedding, you are short-changing yourself if you do not consider the facilities and services that Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park has to offer. Check out the website www.friendsofpennyrile.com for more information.
Congratulations, Chris and Jenny.
Melissa Fowler and Justin Franklin were also united in marriage Saturday, June 13, at the park in Madisonville. Congratulations, Justin and Melissa. Justin was "dog piled" by the Longhorns, or the baseball team he coaches, the night before the ceremony. Dog piling is the way that 11- and 12 year-olds wish you luck, or so I have been told.
Because of the weddings, I was unable to attend "Rockin The Park," which was also held the evening of June 13. Dawson Springs' very own Pillar of Fire hosted the event, where the bands Redeemed and August were also featured. From what I understand, there was a good crowd in attendance to support hometown artists Richie Ford, Matt Sisk, Alan Black, Ben Coy, Stephen Hoard and Will Kelley. Concessions were sold, which greatly benefitted the youth of First Baptist Church. Thanks to Jamie Ford for the news.
It looks as if the holiday weekend is upon us. Don't forget to go on down to Riverside Park on July 3 for some great baseball action from our Tradewater Pirates, followed by the best fireworks show. I hope to see you there. Have a safe and happy Independence Day weekend.
