World peace a lofty and elusive goal
St. Charles News
By Louise Foe, St. Charles Correspondent
“There will be peace in the valley for me someday.” So were the thoughts of the world when the Armistice was signed on Nov. 11, 1918. The dreadful “war to end all wars,” World War I, was ended. At long last our boys could come home from “Over There.” But time marches on, and peace was short-lived.
Our hopes and our wishes are for peace, love and joy for our birthday celebrants of the week. Happy birthday to Rhonda Putty and Adain Lowe, Nov. 6; to nephew Chris Poe, Jackie Jones and Jordan Heath Brandon, Nov. 7; to R.D. Vandiver, Nov. 8; to Larry Hamby, Julia Myerl Long and Mareyah Alshire, Nov. 9; to Nick Woodruff and Callie Menser, Nov. 10. May the good Lord bless and keep you.
Congratulations and many wishes for continued happiness to these celebrating anniversaries. To Billy and Sara Woodruff on Nov. 4; to Ronnie and Janie Winstead on Nov. 6; and to my dear niece and nephew Charisse and Bud Knight on Nov. 8.
There is "peace in the valley" for my dear teacher friend, Mrs. Frances Crutcher, who was called home on Thursday, Oct. 22. Mrs. Crutcher had left her home and was living at The Paragon. She had served as librarian at St. Charles School, among her many positions for the Hopkins County Board of education. She always had a "heart" for our children, which is a high tribute. She will be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Crutcher. Survivors include three daughters, Faye Phillips, Theresa Melton and Reba Qualls; a son, Charles "Lucky" Crutcher, a brother, Hubert Williams, and a host of friends. We send our love.
Our love and condolences are also sent to the family of Virginia Petitt, who died Saturday morning at her daughter's home. Many members of Virginia's family are also our family and friends. Our prayers for comfort are with her mother, Mrs. Lucille DeMoss, her sister, Mary Gunn, my daughter-in-law, Sherry Foe, who is a niece; her brother, James Morse; sister Rhonda (Ricky) Hamby, niece Karen (David) Cox, nephew James Underwood and to all others of her family. Nowadays, large families are almost a thing of the past, but Virginia was mother of 12 children, 10 of whom survive. We feel your loss.
Prayers are also with the family of Patsy Ruth Ford, who passed away Friday at RMC. So many lives touch ours, and our lives are made richer. Just a few weeks ago, Patsy had called me and we had a nice chat by phone. I have had the pleasure of teaching with her daughter, Julie Coursey, and of course, everyone knows and likes her nephew, Noel Hardwick. Patsy is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law Kelly Scott and Marjorie Ford. We ask God's blessings.
Prayers continue for my sister Maxine Smith, who is once again recuperating at home. Remember, too, sister-in-law Jean Thorp, Wanda Fork, Don and Jean Smith, J.T. and Louise Hamby, Parlon and Rachel Abbott, Charlie and Dorothy Rowland, Buddy Farris, Hunter Brewer, Jimmy and Martha Brewer, Lou Grose, James Ernest Wilson, Janie Rickard, cousin Virginia Harris and Aunt Wilma Rickard. I could keep on. Who, among us, would not need the prayers of friends?
"The peace of God passeth all understanding." Phil. 4:7
