I hope to be the model mother-in-law
Hanson News
By Brenda Gibson, Hanson Correspondent
Hello to all of you on this 4th day of November. The wedding is this weekend, and you can bet it is busy at my house. I’m making sure I have all important things packed to head out of town. This week my mama has been in the hospital, but she is home and better. My sister was also admitted for gallbladder surgery, and she is the cake baker. But as long as the preacher is legal and the license is signed, it will be okay. I do know that I have everybody dressed thanks to Barbara Dame. She is Hanson’s super seamstress. There are sure to be several Kodak moments.
Okay, the woolly worms are out in full force. So I need someone to tell me what they predict for the winter. The ones I have seen are black through and through. Several people are already dreading winter. I do want some snow, but we all pray for no ice.
James and Cheryl Massey announce the birth of a new granddaughter. Kristen Marie was born on Oct. 7. Her parents are Chris and Amanda Massey. She will be spoiled by big sisters Crisana and Emily and big brother Christopher.
We welcome Ms. Nell Campbell-Grubbs to Hanson. With her health failing, she has moved from Madisonville to live with her daughter Shellie Smith, her husband Mike and their son Jacob on Tippett Road. Ms. Nell says she loves the quietness and the beauty when her health permits. She keeps busy sewing quilt tops and quilting.
Do you feel like dancing? If you are in the mood to shake a leg or twist a hip, then we have just the thing for you. You should show up at Madisonville gym this Saturday in your tennis shoes, shorts and T-shirts. (Dress ready to move) All the dances will be based on Hannah Montana. The Maroon Magic Dance Team will have you dancing and the gym will be "rockin." If you missed the registration deadline you can still get in on all the moves. You can register at the door. For more information you may call Patty Coke @871-1701.
Congratulations to the Students of the Week: Kailey Roberts, Gracie Lawrence, Alexis Mayes, Latrell Parker, Alex Clark, Rachel Francis, Bryanna Durall, Zack Cary, Jack Dodds, Colton Harper, Shelby Peyton, Olivia Devine, Courtney Rager, Logan White, Roberto Cruz, Austin Ellis, Haley Brotherton, Christian Fields, Josh Forbes, Maddie Coleman, Tyler Hutchison, Mackenzie Hawkins, Kaitlyn Weaver and Sunny Rice. Now don't fret if you do not see you name. We are running a week behind on the list.
Congratulations to Haley Shelton. Last school year Haley entered an essay contest sponsored by The American Legion Auxiliary Maurice K. Gordon Unit 6. The essay theme was "Honor our Soldiers: Past, Present and Future."
Haley received first place for Hopkins County in her age division. She attended an award ceremony at Madisonville American Legion with her family to receive a certificate and a $50 check.
Her essay was sent to the state level and again Haley took first-place honors. She received a book about presidents, including President Obama, signed by Barbara Austin, American Legion second vice president, Department of Kentucky. She is now entered in the national contest. Haley is the daughter of Shawn and Carrie Shelton, and her family is so very proud of her. Also placing in the county contest were Olivia Gilliam and Zak Rickard.
We want to send get-well wishes to our friend Marteen Buchanan. She is doing dialysis about three times a week. She has had surgery on her arm, so she cannot drive. But that does not stop her from walking to church and making her daily trip to the post office. We do hope she is feeling better.
We may need to buy a new trophy case at Hanson School. Our cheerleaders brought home the first-place trophy in the Rotary County Cheer Contest. A big Hanson Hunter hooray to them. All the schools did a great job, and judging was a hard job to do.
Seth Ramage wants to say a late happy birthday to his big brother Max. Max celebrated last week. You can bet the Ramage boys were partying.
Jasondra Cummings also celebrated her 10th birthday last week.
There will be a reunion of the singing group Calico and Lace. The girls will be singing in downtown Madisonville on Sunday before the Veterans Parade. The group consists of Joyce James, Brenda Flener, Christy Cavanaugh and Gina Boyd.
Guess that will be it for this week's Hanson News. We have our car loaded, and we are headed to Dunmor to get ready for a wedding. Emotions are high, so just remember Gary and me this weekend as we enter another phase in this journey of life. He will be a father-in-law. and I will be a mother-in-law. It is kind of scary thinking of all the mother-in-law jokes I have heard.
