Too much Halloween fun to fit into one night
Nebo News
By Debbie Daugherty, Nebo Correspondent
Greetings from the west end of the county. Halloween is officially over and I hope everyone enjoyed lots of treats and smiles. Nebo had two churches that provided "trunk or treat" festivities for the children. They were Johnson Island Baptist Church and Nebo Baptist Church. We did make the one at Johnson Island. We stayed too long in Madisonville trick or treating to make it to Nebo Church. Dylan, however, made a phone call to Bro. Terry Rhye to tell him to save him a bag of candy and, of course, Bro. Terry did. I guess it is the "code of the clergy" to take care of each other's children. Smile.
Several people wanted to know if I dressed up this year. I had to tell them that I gave up the ritual. It's an age thing, I guess. When our daughter Tifani was in school, I dressed up every year. With cupcakes and candy in hand, I would drive to her school. One year, two of my buddies and I did a rendition of "Monster Mash" in the cafeteria. Tifani said she was "scarred for life" with that one. Smile. Another year, I dressed up as a clown and hopped and pounced all over her elementary school. Later that day, I had a kidney stone attack and had to be hospitalized. The doctor said my "antics" dislodged the stone. So, no, I choose not to participate at this time. I'm sure Dylan appreciates that.
Jason and Angie (Powell) Garrett spent a few days in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. They enjoyed resting and relaxing in a cabin atop the mountains. Laura Groves and daughter Cindy have been in Florida for a month visiting Laura's other daughter Diane. They will rest up for a few weeks and then head back down after Christmas.
John and Amanda Rose are parents of a new baby boy. James Tyler Rose weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 201/2 inches long. John's parents, Paul and Cindy Rose, were showing lots of beautiful pictures of the little fella. Ruston and Ashley (Jones) Knoth are also new parents to Joseph Matthew Knoth. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 9 ozs. and was 19 inches long. Grandparents Ray and Vicky Jones do not know what to do with an "average" size grandbaby. Their other two from son Brad and wife Brandy have weighed in around 10 lbs. Congratulations to both families.
Ronnie and Debbie Bearden celebrated 35 years of marriage last month. Best wishes for many more.
Bro. Tondra Daugherty and I will be celebrating 33 years of marriage on Nov. 13. When Tondra and I attended his high school reunion a few years ago, several thought we would get recognized as the couple married the longest but we weren't. I can't remember who received that honor but Jeff Reeves asked if the couple married in study hall. Smile.
Birthday wishes go to Freddie Stokes, Nov. 1, Mike Moore, Nov. 6, Vickie Bowles, Nov. 6, Greg Gobin, Nov. 7. I hope everyone enjoys their special day.
I want to extend my sympathy to Dean Branson due to the recent death of her niece from Henderson. My prayers are with the whole family.
Mikayla Padgett, along with her mom Sherri Padgett and aunt Shannon Sparks, traveled to Louisville last weekend to see Miley Cyrus in concert. Mikayla had a wonderful time and said it was worth missing Halloween for.
Congratulations to Isaac Ramsey, who won second place at the Kidapalooza Soap Box Derby event. Isaac's grandmother is former Nebo gal Linda (Roberts) Ramsey and she is also very proud of him.
I met up with Martha Bowman last week. You may remember Martha when she wrote the Nortonville column for the Pennyrile Plus. I had missed her but did not know why she quit writing. She told me that her husband passed away this past summer. I sure hated to hear that. Please remember Martha in your prayers as she tries to adjust to life without her mate.
Lucas Pendley turned 7 years old recently and celebrated with a swim party at the YMCA. Grandma Barbara Croxton said everyone had a wonderful time. She also told me to tell her son-in-law Chris Pendley to get a haircut. (What are mothers-in-law for?) Smile.
Liberty Baptist Church will be hosting a fifth Sunday Night Singing on Nov. 29 beginning at 6 p.m. with the Stone Family from Henderson. We've heard great things about this group, so plan on coming out and enjoying a night of good singing, food and fellowship.
I guess by now everyone has heard that our Nebo Post Office is closing. There will be a community meeting held at Nebo Christian Church on Nov. 16 from 6 to 7 p.m. to answer any questions or address any concerns that the area has.
I guess that's all for now. Have a great week. To share your news, please call Debbie Daugherty at 249-8411.
