Hopkins Country Central High School senior Mattie Anna Russell was awarded the Gary Hairlson Photojournalism Scholarship at the end of the Xposure Journalism Workshop at Western Kentucky University.
Russell received the scholarship for her pictures that were published in the workshop newspaper, The Limited Edition. Russell took the dominant pictures on page one and the sports page, as well as four others. Her picture from the East-West All-Star game has been entered into competition with photos from other students who attended Dow Jones Newspaper Fund summer workshops across the country.
In addition to shooting pictures, Russell wrote stories about Stand for Children day and the workshop visit to the Tennessee Titans training facility in Nashville. She also shared a byline on a feature on a Titans fullback and wrote a profile on another workshop student.
