Hello to all of you. We hope you are having a great day. With it being the month of February, we have two major events. Yesterday was Groundhog Day, when a little furry animal predicted the rest of the winter for us. And then there is “Love Day,” where we should buy chocolate and flowers. So get out and get some shopping done. You may want to buy a new outfit or order yourself some flowers and put them on your husband’s credit card.

Congratulations to the James Madison Dance Team and cheerleaders. Both teams brought home first place in the WKAC competion in Union County. The dance team was special guest at the Hanson fourth- and fifth-grade talent show. Wow! To be young and limber again. Several of the dance team members are former Hanson Hunters. We also enjoyed another Hanson Hunter Farris Melton, a special guest who sang. Our talent show winners were Hailey Anna Rickard, Taylor Charpentier and Tori Howard, who performed a dance routine. Rebecca Hallumn took second place honors with guitar-playing and singing. And taking third place was Cameron Pleasant. In the art competition, first place went to Kyle Bratcher, second place was Hailey Anna Rickard and third was Sydney Foster. Honorable mention went to Brynin Carver and Albert Buchanan. All of the students were great. We are so proud of all of you.

Checked in with the Ron Harper family and all are doing well. J.T. keeps his dad busy running to the grocery store to get him yogurt and it must be strawberry or banana. And Colton is learning a new game from his big brother that is driving Mama crazy.

We are sad at the passing of two dear friends. Lanny Hillyard, we will miss you. To Barbara, Holly, Heather and all of your family our prayer is for God to comfort you in your time of sadness. Lanny was such a joy to be around. To the family of Velda Beiswenger, she was a wonderful lady. She hung in there and fought the battle. She could be so funny. She was always so positive about her sickness, never complained. May you remember all you good times together.

Caleb and Ariel Wells want to wish their little sister a happy third birthday. She celebrated with a princess cake.

Congratulations to Jack McCormick. He was named Shriner of the Year by the Rizpah Temple Shriners. Jack has made several trips this year transporting children and their parents to Louisville and other places for medical treatments. He enjoys helping the families.

Barrett McCracken and Rashad Combs are the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl, Mia Lynn Combs. Mia came into the world weighing 7 pounds and 4 ounces and with a head full of black hair. Mia was born on Jan. 19 on Nanna Ressa's birthday. Mia might look a little like her poppy, Barry McCracken. Mia had a house full of visitors last week -- Randy and Krista Mouser, Sara and Ann Claire Lutz, Jerin and Erin and visiting from Florida were Katie and 7-week-old Mia Dennis. Mia made her first trip to Kentucky.

Syd and Donna Tate had some special visitors last week. Their daughter Monica and grandchildren made a road trip home. Kilee Ann is 3 and she enjoys helping Nana cook and do crafts. Kilee also made a visit to Hanson in her Hanson Hunter shirt. Ms. Vincent stepped in to sub so Donna could enjoy her company. Josh is 4 months old and he just giggles and is learning new baby tricks every day.

Each year a certain number of Family Resource Centers are randomly chosen to be monitored by the State. Well, this year our very own Tonja Cotton was picked. Two ladies from Lexington came and spent the day with Tonja. She got a great report and they had many positive remarks about our center. They took some of Tonja's ideas back to share with other centers. Tonja says the day went great but she is so glad that it is over and she cannot be picked again for five years. She ended her day with a Ladies Night In at her church, Earlington Assembly of God. The ladies were pampered with massages, make-up, manicures, food and just a night of relaxation.

Wow! There was a lot to tell you this week. I love it when I just have so much news. Please call me this week and let me know some more stuff.

Congratulations to Clay Massamore, a fifth-grader in Ms. Gooch's class, who won first place for Hanson in the Grandparent of the Year writing contest. The contest was sponsored by AARP. Clay's entry will move on to the county level. His parents are David and Ginger Massamore.

Happy birthday to a Hanson girl Candice Watts, who will celebrate this Friday. Candice works at the Veterans Center and her family wishes her a great day.

Dusty and Autumn Hobgood want to say "happy birthday" to their dad, Jeff. He enjoyed dinner, complete with chocolate cake, with his family.

Kathleen Ramsey wants to say get-well wishes to her dad Walter, who was in a car accident. He is at home and we hope he will be out and about soon.

A big hooray to the SOW's: Angel Vickery, Abigail Dickerson, Brandy Thompson, Kaden Vannoy, Tristin Simmons, Cyrus Fields, Wes Greens, Dalton Adamson, Chloe Parker, Maddy Carver, Jackson Watts, Shae Pryor, Olivia Gunkel, Bob Kik, Jacob Joseph, Jaylin Taylor, Alyssa Hancock, Joshua Alcocer, Martha Popescu, Zeke Maddox, Elizabeth McEntire, Savannah Givens, Zack Rickard and Haley Frashure.
