St. Charles: Growing older faster when time seems to move more swiftly
Wednesday, January 11, 2006
For lo, the days are hast'ning on." Can you realize that it's almost the middle of January already? Time just did not not move so swiftly when we were younger. And, it's funny how much younger people seem now. When our parents were in their 30s and 40s, we thought they were "old."
It's a different story for these next folks. They are all a year older. Happy birthday to Tommy Osborn, Jan. 12. Also on Jan. 12, happy birthday to my nephew David Scott Thorp. Happy birthday, Edith Teague, on Jan. 16. And a happy 82nd birthday to Ruth Poe Purdy on Jan. 17. We wish you all many more. Do you want to know a secret? Each of us grows a little older each day of our love. Thank God.
Happy first anniversary to Larry and Phyllis Phelps McCraw, Jan. 14. God bless you with many more.
There are lots of sick folks this week. We hope you are on the mend by now. Jean Smith has undergone kidney stone surgery just before Christmas. She is recuperating at home, but is still not up to par. Our love and our prayers surround her.
Regina Saindon had expected to be released from the hospital on Jan. 1, in time for her parents' anniversary reception, but she had to stay a while longer.
My brother-in-law, Ruby Poe, has been terribly sick with acute bronchitis and, possible, flu. He seems to be improving.
Billy Woodruff is much better, and was able to be our song leader on Sunday. He still desires our prayers.
Linda Riley's surgery was rescheduled for Jan. 4. Our love and our prayers are with Linda.
We continue to remember, with love, Jeff Hopper and his dad, Charles Hopper, Annette Miller, Louise Hamby, Roy Cherry, Leon and Betty Smith, Bro. Jimmie and Faye Moore and Dude and Mildred Cotton. God bless you.
It's good to have Darrell, Charlotte and Nicole Coffman back in church. We thank God for his blessings.
It's still early, and I'll remind you several more times. Our boys and girls with be holding another bike-a-thon this year to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The date is April 29. We will announce the hour and the site later.
Jan. 16 is dedicated to the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. and his "dream." Our dream, too, is for a peace that encircles the globe, and includes all people everywhere.
