Samuel Owen

Daugherty

Samuel “Bill” Owen Daugherty, 77, of Nortonville died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born in Muhlenberg County, had worked in construction and was self-employed.

He is survived by three daughters, Beth W. Smith, Robin Putty and Chrystal Reynolds; three sons, Billy Daugherty, David Daugherty and Henry Daugherty; three sisters, Elizabeth Rhoades, Dean Wells and Georgia Mae Mitchell; and a brother, Ira “Frog” Daugherty.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Reid-Walters Funeral Home, Earlington. Burial: Lake Grove Cemetery in St. Charles. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Billy Hunt

Billy Hunt, 82, of Princeton and formerly of Dawson Springs died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at NHC of Madisonville. He was born March 20, 1926, in Hillier, the son of Dock Hunt and Irene Huddleston Hunt. He was a graduate of Nortonville High School and worked for 40 years as a coal miner, retiring from Peabody Coal Co.’s Camp 11 in Morganfield. He served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of Dunn Missionary Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Lee Wilson Stevens VFW Post. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Daniel Hunt and Robert Ray Hunt.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nelson Hunt of Princeton; daughter Mary Suzanne Baremor of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; son Gary Wayne Hunt of Princeton; sister Doris Sizemore of Madisonville; brothers Franklin D. Hunt of Dawson Springs, James Hunt of Ilsley and Thomas Ray Hunt of Dawson Springs; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Dawson Springs. Veterans honor service will be conducted at the graveside by the U.S. Army, Madisonville American Legion Post 6, Madisonville VFW Post 5480 and Earlington American Legion Post. Visitation will be 5 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Bryan Hunt, Derek Brown, David Hunt, Ryan Calloway, Dan Schreiber and A. J. Haddock. Honorary pallbearers: Chris Proctor and Gayle Nelson.

Patricia Kay Smith

Patricia Kay Smith, 63, of Charlestown, Ind., died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. She was born June 16, 1944, in Madisonville to John Calvin Whitfield and Mamie Frances Griffin. She was a former caregiver.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth W. Smith and Demesia Leffler, both of Charlestown, and John E. Smith of Jeffersonville, Ind.; sisters Norma Jean Gamble of Belleville, Ill., Martha R. Lataille of Woodsocket, R.I., and Joyce D. Flowers of Evansville, Ind.; brothers Jackie Whitfield, John M. Whitfield and Roger D. Whitfield, all of Madisonville; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Grayson Funeral Home, 893 High St., Charlestown, Ind., with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.
