Ever since the Jefferson Circuit Court awarded a former Baptist Health doctor $3.7 million in a breach of contract lawsuit earlier this month, Owensboro Health has found itself answer confronted with a sudden and unexpected influx of phone calls from concerned patients.
The problem, according to Owensboro Health, is mistaken identity.
Dr. John J. Farmer, M.D. has been a part of the Multicare family since 2000. That facility has been owned by Owensboro Health since 2006. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He has not sued Baptist Health, been not been suspended from practicing medicine or moved his practice out of state.
The Dr. John Farmer, M.D. involved in the recent lawsuit against Baptist Health is a 2017 graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Medicine and started working at Baptist Health in July of 2017.
Dr. John J. Farmer still works in family medicine at Multicare, while the younger Dr. John Farmer has been in family practice in Tennessee since 2021.
Owensboro Health officials want to assure patients and the public that these two doctors are not the same person.
