Jerry Glenn Gower, 75, of Madisonville, KY passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville.

He was born November 25, 1943 in Sebree, KY to the late Gonza Gower and Mary Helen Winstead Gower. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Dennis, Galen, Larry, and Ronnie Gower.

Jerry was an outstanding husband, loving father and grandfather, and a truly great grandfather, positively impacting many generations. His was a life well lived and full of love.

Jerry graduated from Slaughters High School in 1961. After high school, he faithfully and honorably served in the United States Army for nine years (1961 - 1970), completing two rounds of duty during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he attended Tennessee Temple University and earned a Bachelor of Theology degree. Jerry held many occupations including ironworker, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Illinois, and retired from the United States Postal Office as a rural route postal carrier. He found joy in the ordinary and the extraordinary. Jerry enjoyed nature, playing Rummy, watching Gaither Homecoming videos, working on house projects, playing Solitaire on the computer, and being a full-time grandpa. He will be remembered for hard work, dedication to his family, vibrant sense of humor, and his loyalty, love, and generosity.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Dottie Vandiver Nance of Madisonville; seven daughters, Robin Parris of Owensboro, KY, Tammy (Jimmy) Duncan of Hanson, KY, Amy Carter of Madisonville; Valerie (Darren) Nance of Nortonville, KY, Stephanie (Teddy) Hamby of Central City, KY, Tina Nance of Lexington, KY and Ashley (Brandon) Young of Madisonville; one son, Adam (Bridgett) Nance of Bremen, KY; seventeen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 13, 2019 Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Darren Nance and Bro. Teddy Hamby officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville at 1:00 P.M.

Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 10:00 A.M. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
