Hopkins County Central Storm

The Hopkins County Central baseball team beat four-time defending District Seven champion and No. 20-ranked Caldwell County on Tuesday, 7-5.

The Tigers (15-3) got on the board with a run in the first, but the Storm (10-5) quickly matched it with a run in the second.

Central broke the tie with two runs in the third, then rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. Caldwell scored three runs in the bottom half and managed one more in the seventh, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Defense played a big role in this game, as the Tigers committed four errors that lead to four unearned runs, while the Storm only committed one error and gave up no unearned runs.

Senior Chance Coates pitched a complete game for Central, giving up five runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out six to get the win. He also went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Junior Jackson Porter finished 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while fellow junior Skyler Hibbs went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Who said Caldwell was ranked 20th? They were not ranked in the Pre Season coaches' poll - not ranked in the March 30 coaches' poll and they were not ranked in the April 15 coaches' poll:
