It's going to take more than a rainy Saturday morning to slow down the Madisonville-North Hopkins boys' cross country team these days.
The Maroons won their third straight invitational Saturday at Marshall County, where North placed five runners in the top 20 and scored 63 points to emerge from the 19-team field with an impressive victory.
"We are on a little bit of a roll right now and had very good balance to win," North coach Darryl Patton said. "We are running with a lot of strength right now, and this was a good win from top to bottom."
Webster County's Mitchael Shelton won the individual title with a time of 16:25, edging Graves County's Marcos Macias by a little more than two seconds.
The top runners for Madisonville were Barrett Eddings (sixth, 16:56), Alex Schell (seventh, 17:01), Christian Parker (15th, 17:32), Garrett Watts (18th, 17:34) and Bart Robertson (20th, 17:54).
Cape Notre Dame from Missouri finished second in the team standings with 87 points, followed by Jackson High School (Missouri) 93, Webster County 118 and McCracken County 136.
