BENTON -- The No. 6 Madisonville-North Hopkins softball team got its second straight win over a ranked team on Monday, grabbing a narrow victory over No. 21 Marshall County on Monday.

The Lady Marshals struck first with three runs in the first inning, but the Lady Maroons responded in the second with an RBI single by sophomore Jayda Perkins that scored sophomore Bailey Woodward and a sacrifice fly by senior Kaylee Tow that junior Acacia Gray, and then a solo home run from senior Mallory Peyton tied the ballgame in the third.

Perkins drove in Woodward again on an RBI groundout in the fifth, but Marshall responded with a run in the sixth to tie things up again. Peyton broke the tie for good in the seventh with an RBI double to left that scored Perkins.

Sophomore Courtney Patterson threw a complete game for North, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out six to get the win.
